Quality and versatility for discriminating users
The Feeder
  The feeder is equipped with a new, more powerful compressor which supplies more air to the new suction head, suction tape and new lateral sheet separation blowers. The suction head with combined lifting and forwarding suckers, lateral sheet separation blowers and specially developed sheet separators with coordinated rear-edge blowers mean that all material thicknesses can be separated easily at top speeds and stable sheet travel is ensured. Electronic eyes continuously monitor when the sheet arrives at the front lays and the orientation of the sheet in travel direction. Deviations from optimum sheet travel are signaled to the operator and can be corrected immediately. The new progressive spring in the pull lay enables the pulling force to be set precisely for each material thickness. The separation rollers on the front lay guard are also new and do not need to be readjusted when the material is changed.
Printing Unit
  By providing computer-optimized precision from printing unit to printing unit, the open-unit design ensures uniform printing conditions throughout the entire process. Sturdy side frames and helical gearing ensure that the printing units operate quietly and smoothly. The printing units of the Speedmaster SM 52 are highly automated. Automatic wash-up devices for the blanket, impression cylinder and inking unit ensure enormous savings in time and wash-up solution. Plates can be changed in less than one minute per printing unit thanks to AutoPlate and can be clamped easily, with register accuracy and without the need for tools. The circumferential, lateral and diagonal registers are controlled remotely via the press control system. For print jobs with low ink coverage, the new short-path inking mode considerably shortens the reaction time of the inking unit.
Sheet Reversing Unit
  The Heidelberg Perfecting sheet reversing device generates a finished product in a single pass. With top quality printing recto and verso, one-pass productivity delivers up to 15,000 sheets per hour (each sheet printed both sides), thereby cutting throughput times and boosting your productivity and profits. The Speedmaster SM 52 is the only press in its format class equipped with a fully automatic sheet reversing device. The changeover process is absolutely precise and is performed via the press control system without any manual intervention. Exchangeable, specially treated impression cylinder jackets downstream from the sheet reversing process prevent ink build-up. A new optical missing sheet sensor reliably monitors sheet travel for all materials and printing speeds and ensures that it runs smoothly. This enhances the range of applications and the flexibility of the sheet reversing process.
The Delivery
  The delivery can handle frequent changes of formats and materials with absolute ease, since it can be changed quickly and without need for tools. Swing-away sheet decurlers, sheet brakes, blower tubes and specially constructed front edge stops ensure perfect sheet travel with precisely-aligned pile formation. The Speedmaster SM 52 is available with two different delivery options – the standard delivery and high-pile delivery. For many applications, the high production speed which the Speedmaster SM 52 achieves is also particularly useful for long runs of small format work. The high-pile delivery offers distinct productivity benefits for such applications when used on four-, five- and six-color models. It cuts the frequency of pile changes by a good third, compared with the standard delivery.
